What’s That Name?

Our home is in the town of Poughkeepsie, New York; seat of Dutchess County on the bank of the Hudson River.

According to Miss Helen Wilkinson Reynolds’s history of the founding of Poughkeepsie,  “‘Minnisingh,’…is believed to have been applied to the high ground northeast of (the present) Arlington, along the road to Pleasant Valley, and it may have meant: “place-where-the-stones-are-gathered.”

That being a good description of both the location and construction of our house, it seemed like an apt title.
